Random updates
Yikes! It’s been a long time since I’ve posted. There just hasn’t been a whole lot to write about, unless of course you want to hear about how busy work has been or about how fascinating my insurance classes are. I think it’s pretty safe to assume you don’t.
So lets see…what updates do I have? Well, the weight loss thing was successful for a while and then came to a standstill. I’m still working on it but I’ve been stuck at 2.5 lbs down from my starting weight. That means I still have 8.5 lbs to go. I WILL get there. I haven’t lost the motivation, I’ve just had some things come up that have prevented me from reaching my goal. (And when I say “things” I mostly mean chocolate chip cookies.) Anyway, I’m controlling myself enough to keep those 2.5 lbs off but not enough to continue to lose more. I’m confident that the next time I give an update on this, I’ll be able to post better results.
On the running front, things have been going great! I feel so good on all of my runs. I was really struggling with my pace for a while but after a few weeks, my speed (if you can call it that) seems to be coming back. Yesterday I went for a great run around a lake not far from my house (pictured above). The lake gets way too crowded during the summer months but I love it during the winter when there are just a few runners and no congestion. It’s a really pretty place to run and given that it’s only 3.25 miles around, you can easily use it as a big track and do laps around it. Yesterday was seriously windy though. The gusts threatened to knock me on my ass and as I passed other runners, we would just look at each other and laugh. It was really almost comical. Despite the wind, it was supposed to be an easy run and I felt really strong. I was pleased with my splits of 9:42, 9:31, 9:17 and then 8:15 for the last quarter mile. A few weeks ago, I would run 10:00+ min./miles and nearly collapse on my doorstep at the end so it’s nice to see that I’m getting stronger even though I may not be setting any world records. I also submitted my registration for Boston’s Run to Remember Half Marathon. The race isn’t until the end of May but I felt that I need to be officially signed up just to give myself something to look forward to. I really can’t wait. It’s been SO long since I’ve done a race.
In other news, I am sorry to announce that my faithful iPod mini kicked the bucket yesterday. It made some odd beeping sound and shut off, never to be turned on again. I was a bit annoyed with Apple because it’s not like the thing was that old. I do have a video iPod but it’s far to large to strap to my arm while running. As a result, I was forced to purchase a cute little mint green shuffle. I’m looking forward to trying it out tomorrow!
I think that’s all for now! Sorry for the dull post. Oh, and GO PATS!

Hey there.. I notice familiar ground at Quannapowitt, correct? I know it well – it’s my training ground. I have a question about the Run to Remember. I’m a pretty good half-marathon (for my age). I run about a 1:50 and expect I could do that this weekend… but I’ve never run a race, and I’m wondering how crowded it is, how that affects getting started, and if it is suited to try to get there early enough to try to be near the front. I figure I’ll place around 1000 or so our of… 4000? So I’ll also try to put myself 1000 back. I guess it’s for fun, but I would like to get close to what I normally clock. Do you have any advice? Thanks, and enjoy!
